I have a 87' 22ret pickup and passed smog the second time around in Nevada.
Knowing I have a really bad AFM that stutters so badly when it is could out to where I cant rev over 3k. I think it failed the first time because it hasnt been driven in over 6months with a full tank of gas and 220k miles. High speed CO was at 5.19% when specs. are below 1.2%. Talking with some of my friends at work said to try some fuel cleaner and/or adding higher octane additive. Another buddy said to try "Gauranteed to Pass" so I thought to give that one a try. Instructions were followed, pour into full tank of gas drive around till near empty, refuel and retest. I fueled up at 1/4 tank, changed oil, smogged and passed.
I can honestly say this product worked for me this time around.

Now I still gotta find a good replacement AFM!!
