Hello, first thread/post here. I have two Toyota trucks, a 99 Prerunner and an 86 22r engine. I like them both of course. The 86 is a real beater. But I have this steering problem. Here is a video of the problem. Is that bolt broken? What do I need to replace to fix this problem? Everything else is tight. Thanks for any help. I researched it enough to take this video but, I thought it might be something unique, something broken rather than worn out.

OK, I dug deeper, I just didn't know where to start, I didn't even know the name of parts to do a decent search. So no need to reply, I think I know what I have to do now, more to it than I assumed at first.

Yes, definitely need to replace that. Before you do, inspect the rest of the steering system, so you save on labor by fixing/replacing all defective parts at one time.

I went for the part at the Auto Zone, they told me I need a new pitman arm. The pitman arm they came up with has the ball joint integrated into the pitman arm. But on my 1986 truck, the ball joint is integrated into the center link, or drag link(?). So don't I have to get a new drag link? Here's a picture if you can't see the vid. I even brought a pic up to the store and they didn't understand what I was talking about. Am "I" confused? So many things that seem so simple turn into mess for me lol. OK, I went and bought the new drag link, pretty obvious it's what I needed, thanks for looking, think I'm good now.

yes, you did right. The 2wd pickups have the balljoint on the center link, not the pitman arm. So you needed to replace the center link. they were pulling parts for a 4x4

I was getting potty mouth pretty bad in the driveway, ruined a nut using the banging method to break the ball joint press, not working. I'm going to try the puller tomorrow. I also decided to replace all the tie rod ends, might as well, not expensive. I lubed the knuckles and things around there. I feel better about it, never messed with that before. Is there a tie rod that's best loosen first with the puller?
