Sick turbo

Sick turbo
Ok so I have an 86 22rte 4x4 truck. I overhauled the engine and sawped out the ct20 for the ct26 but the truck still smokes when it gets warm. The truck is straight piped could that have anything to do with it? The oil supply or return line has a small kink in it but still allows oil to pass through. I am at my wits end with this truck. Any advice as to what it could be?

That or valve cover vent that vents back in right before the turbo. That seems to be common. Mine was sucking the oil out the valve cover, through the turbo, and blowing it into my intake manifold.

Some people plug off the hole where it goes into the intake pluming before the turbo (so you don't have a vacuum leak) and put one of those little "k&n" style breathers on the valve cover part. I built a oil catch can to run between the two and it seemed to work. I also built one for my pcv valve too.

I plugged the hole and put a k&n type filter on the valve cover and it stopped the smokeing then I topped off the oil and guess what the smokeing is back. I'm starting to think I got a bad turbo.

It could still be a bad turbo, these ct 20's are known to be pieces of crap. I did the oil catch can and didn't have oil getting into the turbo anymore but.........I was still getting it oil in the intake manifold,so my turbos done.

Kinda hard to explain how to build one. You can buy them. I made one of mine out of my old trucks charcoal cannister, and the other one out of an old a/c receiver/drier. Basically it's a can that separates the blow-by gasses from the oil and leaves the oil in a can while the blow-by gets sucked back into the intake like it's supposed to. I put in petcocks (hehe, petcocks) in the bottom of the cans so I can easily drain whatever oil has made it into them.

I know the oil drain on my T3 has to be pointed straight down with absolutely no restriction. I'm running a 1/2" line from the drain straight to the oil pan with no restrictions at all. you could pull the exhaust housing off the turbo and see if the turbine is saturated in oil. If it is and you pull the manifold off the motor and look in at the exhaust ports and they seem to be dry, it's got to be the turbo. Mine uses a little bit of oil and when I pulled the manifold off, the valves had a little wetness on them from valve seals.

Yeah I found out That my oil return had two kinks in it. I ran a better shorter line with no kinks and boom no more smoke. Thanks guys my next step was to roll it off a cliff
