you could use some VHT niteshades and tint them. a couple of light coats will be different enough but still be able to see them as red. or go darker so they look completely black. and only look red when you step on the brakes. if you have a brain fart and go too dark just wet sand to make them lighter. i VHT'd my mustang lights and they look different enough without being a cop magnet.

i know a dude who used the tint spray on his lexus taillights and they came out really good. you have to get the stuff specific for the job, it's "translucent" so light goes through. his lights look like factory smoked. buy a can of it, and get yourself a junk taillight from somewhere to practice on.

i'm sure there's some how-to's online if you do a google search for "tint your own tail lights" or something similar.

if you want to be different, you can also tape off a portion of it, like the clear of the backup lights, and only smoke the turnsignal part, or whatever. right?

good luck with your project, and hope you dont get attention from the cops.

as desertcox said, VHT, that's the stuff! i just saw it on ebay

VHT makes lots of different paints. for the lights make sure you get the "niteshades". after it's sprayed it will look like flat black. if you want glossy finish you'll nees to put some clear over the tint afterwards.

just what desertcox said. you spray on some nightshades, little by little til you get the tint you want, then cover with clearcoat. wetsand with like 1000 if necessary, then wax. done.

I used VHT on mine and just hit them lightly for a bit of a tint. I also taped off the reverse light portion so it wouldn't look like I did anything too major, it did make the faded red plastic less obvious

you could tint your lenses any color you want it you were so inclined. i have never done it with rattle cans but have tinted lenses black before. i have also tinted windows with automotive paint before as well, red and purple. here is a cool tip, if your headlight or tail lights are looking old and weathered you can lightly sand them then clear coat them and they will look brand new.

I don't think the tinted tail lights look good at all, To me they look like crap & you can't see the brake lights in the sun. Keep them the factory color & please don't use any of those horrible clear & chrome ricer lights.

Yea i bought some stuff called nightshade, its badass its about 10 or 15 bucks for a can but it was plenty to do my taillights and corner lights with some left over. its better than spray paint and its made for what you want to do with it, i bought it from pickup truck warehouse but im sure you could ask around or find it online. if your wanting your taillights blacked out thats the only way to go.
