Shocks/Springs????
I need to replace my shocks on my truck, but I have a question about the "springs" or coils that people put over them.
I was looking at the Bilstein 5100 series.
What is the difference with the springs over the shock? Are coilovers the same thing? (they allow you to adjust the pressure?)
I was just wondering because I see some guys have the coils over the shocks and didn't really know why.
Also, is it true that you can take out the leaf springs and use coil springs in the rear? If not, what are coils in the rear for?

If you're asking about the '93 truck in your signature line, then you can't use coilovers without completely rebuilding your suspension. You have torsion bars as springs instead of coils. The Bilsteins you're asking about will work fine on your truck, as long as you get the ones made to fit it.
You might be seeing a lot of coils on the fronts of Tacomas and newer 4Runners. These are strut-type suspensions, and are a bit different than coilovers. They're also completely different than your front suspension.
The rear coils that you might be refering to, are you seeing those in the '96 and newer 4Runners? That's how they came from the factory. It would take a lot of work, money, cutting, and welding to swap a setup like that into your rig.
Hope this helps.
