Shock Removal on a Spring Replacement?
I ordered a set of OME901's last night for my '91 4runner, and after looking at the tech write ups here, I have a question-- Is it absolutely necessary that I completely remove the rear shocks for this install? If memory serves, I had a helluva time getting the nut on the top stud installed when I replaced my shocks about 3500 miles ago.(There may be an easier way to do that, too!) Thanks for any info, Shane

when i put my 901's in i replaced the shocks at the same time so i pulled the old shocks completely out.
I would think that as long as you unbolt the bottom of the shock mounts that the shocks wouldn't prevent you from swapping the coils.
FYI: when i did mine, I pulled the shocks off, unbolted the hard brake line from the axle housing (except for the last screw by each drum), removed the rubber brake line (mine was only 9", had it been 11" like some have I'd have been fine), and even then i found some strut compressors (that compress from the outside of the spring) really useful, and a free rental from my local Kragen (Schucks/Checkers)

Unless those shock are longer than stock your gonna want to get some new shock anyways. I didn't at first and the shock basically stretched itself as far as it could go then grenaded themselves with a week. They are not long enough to leave in there. Go with the ome nitrochargers. I think they are N72F's if my memory serves correctly. Your also gonna get a lot more than 1" lift out of the springs. After three months with them I am still at 2.5" of lift.

You're adding ca 2.5" of suspension lift, you need to use longer shocks else
you'll negate to additional flex that the longer springs could provide.
You'll also have to adjust your bumpstops down for the longer shocks such that you don't bottom them out.
