Shift Lever Bushings

Shift Lever Bushings
Just replaced the shift lever bushings for the 2nd time on my 86 Toyota 2WD 5-speed truck. There are some differences from 4WD trucks and 4runners. The lever is spring loaded, but it's attached to a plate that bolts to the transmission, so no press and twisting needed to unlock the lever. Just remov the 4 bolts holding the plate and it lifts off with the cover. Much easier. Reinstalling you just need to apply slight down force on the plate corners to get the bolts to grab. Not hard to do.
The top doughnut like busing was totally deteriorated, while the tip bushing was in good shape. Replaced both as they came in the kit. These bushings last about 150K miles on my truck. Last time the OEM weather seal boot at the base of the shift lever that seals to the transmission was in good shape. This time it had tears in the front and back. Luckily found a new new one for $21 with shipping. That's a must replace to keep dirt and water out the transmission.n
