They are pretty short, just from memory maybe 4.5" at the most. EDIT: from 4crawlers link below they are 3.5" center to center. Here's a pic if that helps:
If I were making some I'd copy as close as possible 4crawlers design, they are the best design I've seen. One of the best things about them is the nuts can't loosen up as you drive them. http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/Shackles.shtml At least read his info, it will answer most questions.

Quote from link above:
Given a spring with the axle located about midway on the leaf, every 2" of extra shackle will equate to 1" extra height at the axle. Usually, you'll get a bit more than that, since the longer shackle won't be kicked back as far. So, for a rule of thumb, figure between 1/2 and 2/3 of the extra shackle length will be seen as lift at the axle

i have read that 3 times now and still question is not answered. i need to know what length my shackles need to be (hole to hole) to get 3 more inches of lift. if the shackles were straight up and down they could just be made 3inches longer than stock. but because they are at a angle i need to know the ratio for lenghth to how much lift i will get. if that makes sence.

Just for the record, I didn't say I recommended doing it that way either.
