seperating engine from bell housing

I am new and did the search on this topic but found no answers.

I am ready to seperate the engine 3.0 v6 manual transmission(all bolts are out of the bell housing and starter is disconnected). I have it seperated about a 1/4 inch, but how do I release the clutch lever from the pressure plate? I see no inspection plate to release the clip and I can't see a way to get to the clutch cover bolts like I did on my rx-7. I followed the shop manual links but I cant find any info in the engine removal section.

Any helpo is appreciated.

Thanks..Scott

On my 22RE I don't remember having to do anything special. Almost seemed like it jumped apart once we got the bolts out and started lifting it with the picker.

yeah I guess because there is no mention of that might be a way. On my rx-7 i had to remove a clip holding the throwout bearing to the pressure plate, so the two would seperate.

IIRC, there is no such clip on your t/o bearing. I have pulled a few 3.0 engines, and one of them was pretty hard to get seperated. After I made for sure that I had not forgotten to remove any bolts, etc, I just pryed it apart. It took some grunting, but it did seperate.

Definitely no clip holding the t/o bearing to the pressure plate. The clip that keeps the t/o bearing in place holds it to the clutch fork. Just pry and pull as best as you can!

My experience with various engine/trannys have been that some will slip apart & some you do need to pry. I think it's just how it goes.

Kinda unrelated but funny or stupid depending on how you look at it. My first vehicle was a 1973 Datsun 620 p/u. I slammed that thing on the ground, steped the frame & removed all of the body & bed bushings for a body drop. All was good until I had to replace my clutch! I couldn't get the trans apart because the body was to low for it to slip out. Out came the grinder!!! At the time I thought it was cool, now that I look back I realize that my brain wasn't functioning correctly.

From: Cincinnati, Ohio - Amelia is the exact place. There is no one else on this site from where I am. Seems like everyone is from Cali or Washington. I guess I need to move.
Use a 2x4 or the handle for your 3 ton floor jack and find a place of leverage and torque around. Just be careful what you use as a falcrum.

Or have the cherry picker taut and u and a buddy have a defining moment together looking like some clownshoes wiggling it around real crazy like.
