I was wondering if wanting to get the full benefit of 4LOW, would i have to put it in 4LOW and L (low gear) on the auto tranny or just on Drive. This just occured to me yesterday while offroading as i usually just have it in Drive and 4LOW.

 

I'm no expert, but I believe L just leaves the tranny in 1st, whereas D will shift as needed.

 

i would leave it in D unless climbing a steep hill or something. when i use 4 low, i usually cruise in 3rd at about 5-10mph. sometimes you need the wheel speed for mud, not wheel spin, but wheel speed. make sense?

if ur climbing anything, or in any low traction situation, i would put in low4 & low gear, I say this because when in d, it will shift all over the place and when ur climbing anything (especially muddy hills) u dont want a sudden surge of power that could cause u to loose traction.
