Seating Options
#25
I went with 95 sr5 runner seats. they are super comfortable. On my 87 I pulled the carpet back and there were 2 hidden holes with the welded on square nuts, the carpet backing has the circles marked and somewhat cut. I used an exacto knife, and I mean a pretty old dull blade and it just popped em out easy. With these seats I had to grind the front inner holes on the seats and push moderately hard to get the rear to line up. Its very close in the back. If you go this route get the seats ready and able to mount all 4 bolts, then put the rear bolts in first, I noticed the front bend in slightly. I also used the front seat belts from the runner, so I have the hard plastic over the belt. Much nicer then the floppy buckle

i switched in some runner buckets. a lil bit of force and holding and they lined up on all 4 after i redrilled the holes. now i gotta go tackle the freaking rust on drivers side floor board before it gets worse. removed the plastic liner to see a hole there

Zombie thread springs back to life.
Anyway, The mounting locations for buckets in trucks that came with a bench are (in my experience not drilled, backed up with weld nuts or marked.
Tacomas are marked, no backing nut though.
Pretty easy, just put the seat in, mark the other holes, drill and put a nut and bolt in.
2 out of my 3 trucks had bench seats, all now have buckets.
2000 tacoma buckets in my 96
1st gen 4runner buckets in my 86
Lexus power seats in my 87 (Not a bolt in swap).
ETA: Tip. Most toyota bucket seats have identical bases and backs (the upholstered parts) from driver to passenger. Meaning that if you find two trucks (say in a junkyard) with the identical interiors and both have thrashed drivers seats but the passenger seats are good, you can grab the seat base and back from a clean passenger seat, swap it into the drivers side frame and make a good pair of seats.
I have also swapped them on my trucks after a few years to even out the wear.

Looking to Replace my seats in my 86 runner...
what model car or truck seats convert the best... I have a welder and all that good stuff so customizing is not a problem... was thinking of 3rd generation 4runner seating and converting so I have all matching stuff....has anyone had any luck with this??
