Seat Belt Warranty

So when I got to work this morning my seatbelt buckle wouldn't disengage. the button moved normal and the tab could move around a little in the receiver... it just wouldn't release when I pushed the button down.

After a bit of this I took the carabiner on my keychain and hammered on the button a bit and it finally released.

--------

Seatbelts aren't required in NH but I still prefer to use one, though I don't want to get stuck again.

A mechanic friend of mine said that most cars carry a lifetime warranty on the seatbelts because they're a safety device. I know this was true for my early 90s Nissan.

it's an 89 pickup with 265K so any milage or year based warranty is LONG GONE.

the only NEW belts I found online where here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

they're "universal" though I don't know how well they'd actually work in the truck. I'd love to replace the belts and retracters too since they're stained and don't like to reel themselves back up.

so, anyone ever get belts covered under warranty? or know where I can get some new replacements that wont leave me trapped in the truck?

I had an old automotive teacher tell me the same thing, but I wasn't sure it was true. The only way your gonna find out is to try it. Call up a dealership and talk to the service manager.

And let us know the outcome!

I was told by a Yota Service tech back in 07' that the warranty was 6 years/60k miles, however many dealerships will replace the parts for free but will charge you only the labor. Might as well call em up and see whats up, maybe they will give you the belt assembly and you can install it.

Or grab a receptacle out of a junkyard truck that still has all it's window glass intact and closed. (no rain getting in)

1sttoyotaparts.com has OEM belts for about 30% off local dealer prices. I ordered new retractors and receivers for both sides and what a difference! Still ran about $250 though if I remember correctly.... One of those things I will never cheap out on, along with brakes suspension and steering....

only warranty I ever heard of was the 3.0 head gasket, and you had to pry that out of them

My seatbelt was pretty shredded when I bought my truck, I went to the local toyota wrecking yard and grabbed one that was in great shape out of another truck. Only cost 50 bucks, or something like that... Great deal.

They pretty much laughed at me when I called and then quoted me about $50 for just the driver's side receiver....

I sent an email to yotayard asking what they charged and got back an email saying they didn't have any (which I find really hard to believe).

I just ordered from 1sttoyotaparts per yakerat's suggestion... price was about $30 which is much more reasonable... I also ordered a few other odds and ends that I needed. I always hate those online catalogs though, it's hard to tell what it is exactly that you're ordering.

I had the same issue with my Honda

took it into a dealership and they replaced it for free.

I did hear that it varies from dealership to dealership..
So call up a few places if the first one wants to charge you.

yeah I would have thought 21 years 265K miles would be asking a bit much from a manufacturer/dealer.

FYI-for future reference there is a sticky in most folders for used parts sources.
I have bought parts from the majority of them and had good luck with getting quality and decent prices from them...

You are going to LOVE the belts though! No more saggy belts getting stuck in your door. I was really happy with the install, took about 15 minutes. Ss for the online guide I am also a hater. It would be nice if I could find a site with the schematic for every part, that makes it a really safe bet every order. Enjoy
