Im looking to get an electric fan and I know that the black magic fans are the best but im not sure what model number is good etc. any input is greatly appreciated!

 

Search Taurus fan mod. Much better swap IMO.

or Mercury Villager/Sable or Nissan Quest. Ford buys really nice efans for their cars....i have a Nissan Quest fan. Blows so hard, when you get out of the vehicle you can feel the hot air flowing off the engine, never experienced that with a mechanical fan before.

 

well i was looking at those black magic extreme or 180 fans that have the shroud around them and they move about 3300 cfm

 

check out some threads on other forums of folks using the Black Magics, check for reliability, ease of installation, and clearance if you have a 22re it will be tight..especially with a Ford efan. In the case of our trucks, you will definitely need a shroud if you do any type of crawling....BTW the Taurus/Sable/Villager/Quest fan moves about 3300cfm also.

well those ford and other fans only pull up to 2400 cfms at best and requires much more power to run, 40 amps vs like 18amps. thats what ive come up with so far...

Just be aware 40amps is The initial draw. Those fans use a 20amp relay. A dcc fan controller was made for those fans.

 

You're rightthe villager fan pulls 2400cfm, sorry for the misinformation. Honestly I went back and reread the efan link I posted above.
Running the a/c in 100f heat, in stopped traffic,.....the a/c is icy cold, no lie!
But if you want to buy a new aftermarket fan and controller(haydens are junk btw) check out SPAL. They make a nice controller rated at 35amps.

any thoughts? also im gonna be getting this as a birthday present so as wierd as this sounds money wont be the issue here so thats y im more interested in this fan rather than messin with a conversion.

 

I've got a flexalite #165 it will be replaced with a taurus fan. It has burned up 3 fan controllers 2 stock ones, one aftermarket. Just not worth the money imho.

 

Check out my build thread, I have the taurus fan mod and love it so far, I am using the dccontrols unit for mine, it cost more than the standard relay setup but you get what you pay for. now when i do my BL i dont have to worry about moving the radiator down.

 

I used an Imperial Fan (cheaper line of Hyden actually) that I picked up at a local Advance Auto Parts, for about $65

worked great on a stock radiator; never had any issues

I know what you mean, but bare in mind that you are putting an electric fan on a vehicle not designed for one. No matter what fan you buy you will be messin with the installation i promise. Now, whether or not the fan just bolts onto the existing radiator is one thing, but wiring everything up correctly is another. Not to mention if you would like to add a switch to turn the fan off(water crossing), force the fan on(in case the relay/controller/thermometer fails), and run normal auto operation. Or add an LED so you KNOW when the fan is running, (electricals can fail, a reminder light that it is working is nice). Not trying to discourage you, just letting you know there WILL be some work to get the fan installed. To me, fitting the fan to the radiator was the easiest part....just sayin.
