Exclamation scolding hot radiator

ok guys I'm trying to find some info on radiators. My 86 4runner rad gets super hot even after being on for <5 mins gauges says cool doesnt overheat, but that SOB gets super hot. All my searches came up with overheating issues and broke temp sensors I'm not having those problems. Are any of y'alls 4runners rads like this?

You gotta measure the temperature somehow.
Touching it ain't gonna do it.
Get an inexpensive IR temp gun.

If you start it, cold, with the radiator cap off, what happens?
