Safety Cancel?
My 86 P/U has a button on the dash that says "Safety Cancel"
Anyone know what that does?

my 87 has the same thing. Mine is modified thoguh so you have to press it to start the truck. It is the same thing as the clutch start cancel

when your key is in the on postion and safety cancel is on, you're able to start the truck without pushing the clutch down.

Careful! The safty cancel button turns your truck into an animal! Just kidding, it's if you should happen to stall out climbing a hill in 4low in 1st and instead of trying to reapply the clutch and slipping down the hill, you simply use the starter to get her moving and fired up again. I use it to warm her up without having to climb in and push in the clutch.

Wow! Hey i was just gunna post the same exact question. I couldn't figure out what that silly thing was, i'd press it while the truck was already started and it wouldn't go off unless i turned the truck off. I thought i would have a good one for the tech's too...

ding! ding! ding!
And on the subject of warming up... I used to pop my TC in neutral and my tranny in 5th (turns the slowest). So when I got out to it, my truck was warm and so was my engine and tranny...
Before, I'd get harder shifting from the thicker fluid until it warned up...
And yes, I am in the "too lazy to get in my truck to push the clutch in" category

it just allows you to start the truck without pressing in the clutch. you can also use it to get you a short distance with the starter if your craps out motor on you. hell i've seen a couple low geared trucks use the starter to climb up rocks..

I've used it where i need my foot on the gas, and my foot on the brake. Like if i was flooded on a steep hill.
And it's a great way to stay in shape!
