rust bucket
so since paragon destroyed my carpet literally from the inside, and from the outside, i had to tear it out to prevent a horrible stench...this also brought about the dreaded time to repair the rust on the backs of my front fenderwells...the holes are arout 4 inches wide or less, and maybe 5 inches in length...the drivers side has been temp patched with a sheet of aluminum and some self tappers, but in order for me to herculine the floor of the truck, thats gonna have to go...
i have no access to welding for the immediate future, so im considering going with fiberglass resin and cloth...
heres the plan
step 1-sand off all the rust, and make the holes uniform in size with a grinder...
step 2-clean off the surrounding areas with sandpaper and steel wool so the resin has something to adhere to...
step 3-prime it all with rust-oleum...
step 4-sand that just a tad
step 5-fiberglass work...not something i enjoy lol. if i have to, i will screw a small peice of metal strap across the hole, so that in the center the fiberglass with have something to hold on to better.
step 6-sand it and clean it up
step 7-undercoat the fenderwell
in my head this seems as tho it would work, but im also worried about the undercoater sticking to the fiberglass, the herculiner sticking to the fiberglass, the durability factor, and also flexibility in the light of with time will it just crack off slowing from my feet or the passengers feet, or even wheeling/driving...
give me you opinions, insight, so on and so forth...
if anyone has done this or something similar...please pm me

If you're concerned about the 'durability factor', it's better to cut the rust out completely. If you don't, it WILL come back. Even if you can't weld (or have access to a welder), you can still patch the holes with sheetmetal and rivets. Seal all the seams.
If you don't care if it comes back, and you just want a few more years service before scrapping the body, fiberglassing over rust holes will work, after hitting the rust with an aggressive wire cup brush, and then sealing it with POR-15.
Of course, Welding is best.
