1989 4Runner 3vze 5spd. 3 body lift. 31 inch tires. All else is stock. 224xxx miles.
It runs rich. You can smell it.
In neutral and in gear there is a certain point when the engine runs inconsistently. When in gear the whole truck will jerk. Let off the gas or power through it and the problem smoothes out.
Check engine light comes on if you take a long highway rip. Goes out after a few days. Seems weak. Driving hard will keep it up to about 55mph. It doesnt pull 5th very well. Seems to run better in the cool weather.
This problem was much less noticeable 12000 miles ago.
Any thoughts?

 

Read your CEL codes first. Sounds like a TPS or AFM but could be something else. The codes will tell you where to start troubleshooting.
