Runs bad when hot outside
In the mornings, my truck runs and idles great. Peak hours of noon, it runs horrible. Idles fine, but there's no power when accelerating. In the cooler air of the evening, the truck runs good again.
What could cause this? Am I being paranoid, or does anyone else experience this?

I'm not sure about you intake setup - but it's possible that it's sucking in the hot air from the engine bay. This becomes worst when the outside air temp is high. Do a test - make sure that only the outside air comes in to the intake and drive it during the peak hours to see if solves the problem.

AFM. Check your flapper door. or your throttle body may need cleaning. put some sea foam in your intake to clean it out.
I googled this and found some links:
engine is sluggish with hot ambient temp
also
engine is sluggish when hot ambient temp
More air in, fuel in, mixture ignited and expelled is the key to power. in tell you get into more physics and fuel tables of an engine.
your on the dot again plug it in colder air is denser air- hence the reason why i run water/meth injection in my evo. I would run a snorkel rather than a conventional cold air intake in a 4runner. water and engine dont mix, haha.
Ever thought of getting a celica supra afm? thing is massive compared to a stock 3vzfe or 22re.

I'm thinking starving for fuel. If it runs well at idle, but has trouble under load with heat outside, could be leaning out. Dirty filter? Bad pump?
I'm having similar problems, new motor, new filter. Gonna try dropping the tank and checking out the pump and strainer (it sat for four years before I got it). I'll post when I finish.

Yeah, thats true.
Well, i know my tps is out of wack and i can tell my fuel milage has gone to crap. So ill adjust it and see how it runs again, supra afm is hard to come by here..my tb is clean as a whistle to.

Yeah, 22re's have an air temp sensor in the VAFM, as do the 3VZE as well. And it'll only throw a code if the value read is really close to being either "open" or "shorted". You'd probably get an O2 rich or lean before you got an intake temp code.

This might help:

Notice the E2-THA readings... all based on ambient temp: more resistance = colder ambient.

So today it was kind of cool and rainy. Truck ran great and was strong. Later on it heated up and the clouds went away. Ran like crap. I'll check out a few of the suggestions after I fix the EGR engine code.

Had a simular problem. truck started fine ran ok, but was a bitch to start when hot and didn't feel like it had any power. put in a new fuel pump and wow. runs like a champ and the increase in power is unbeliveable.

Does it have any trouble codes? An issue in the Air flow meter is highly possible and likely. Check it out test it and or get a new one. Intake manifold gasket leaking? Intake cracked and or leaking? Main intake hose cracked and or leaking?

Just don't buy the cheap ass fuel pumps off ebay. bought one $42us, pls $20 shipping. Istalled it, would hardly fill the fuel rail. went and got a good one ($320 can.) from the parts store, fired up first try and runs great.
