Running on three cylinders?

In my never ending quest to find and fix all my 22re problems I've now found a new one.

I started the diagnosis all over again this morning by starting the truck and trying to guess why it was running like it was. So lets start with spark. I pulled each wire off of it's respective plug one at a time and numbers 1,2 and 3 made a noticable change in the idle (it got worse) number 4 however produced nothing. Not the slightest change in idle. So it looks like number 4 isn't firing. The plugs, cap, rotor, wires etc are all new.

Will a spark plug just stop working?

Thanks in advance guys. I'm trying to avoid tearing into this thing to adjust the valves if I can help it.

check your valve adjustment. Its really easy to do. If thats the problem and you let it go, it can burn a valve. Factory settings are .008 for intake and .012 for exhaust

It has GOT to be the valves. I replaced the injector and there's no change so now I have a spare.

I'll have to let the truck cool off and start pulling the valve cover off. God what nightmare...........

Put the plug into the wire, does it fire?
If so - check compression on that cylinder.
If good compression, verify injector signal at the plug.

Yes it fires.

Compression at 150 just like the other three cylinders

Injector signal? I've got a meter so tell me how to check it.

Thanks.
