RTV for locking hubs?
I just picked up some locking hubs for my ADD equipped 4Runner and I was wanting to put them on tomorrow morning before I go to work as I have a CV axle that isn't looking so hot. It'll be another week before I can afford to replace the cv but this is my only ride so I need to drive it without the cv coming apart on the highway
Couple questions. Can I use a light light coat of RTV in place of the gasket? The dealership was closed so I didn't have time to get them and iirc my local parts store said that gasket is a dealer only option.
Also I didn't get cone washers at the yard because I remember reading that the ADD flanges have cone washers already. Will I need any studs or bolts or anything aside from what's already on my current ADD hubs to bolt these locking hubs on?
Thank you in advance for any help

Yes. on my warn manual locking hubs i use RTV silicone. makes a better seal. You dont need the super strong stuff. Only problem is if you want to take off the hubs you gotta pull the wheel so you can pry the hub off.

Well that's ok. I'll be getting the actual gaskets soon I just need to be able to get the cvs to quit spinning until I can get them replaced next week.
How about cone washers/studs/bolts? Will all the stuff that bolts the ADD flanges on bolt the locking hubs on?
edit: I found this by searching google (I was just searching in the 86-95 Trucks/4Runners forum...) https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f128...4runner-76353/
It does look like it's all going to be there. We shall see haha.

Awesome. This should be a cake swap then. I can't wait to drive to work tomorrow and not hear that cv howling lol. That's going to be a fun job... I may just wait until I get my bj spacers etc. as I'll be in there anyways. It'll just be nice to not be locked in all the time. I realistically won't be able to wheel this thing comfortably until next summer as it does need some work, but buying time on the cv and upgrading to locking hubs will be SWEET.

I just use the multi purpose Blue Silicone I use for every thing else .
I have yet to ever see hubs with anything but silicone.
Then the Warn hubs are so much better even if they stick out .250" more then the Aisin Hubs that break all the time for me!!!
About like API 104 and ASME Section 9
