RPM vs Boost - turbo sizing
A few people have asked which turbo to use for their toyota.. My recommendation is a mid to large sized T3.
This is the run of a T04b, (not T3/T04b) - with a large turbine.
I consider it fairly laggy.. Probably good for higher RPM power, but not particuarly great for around town driving, towing, and 4wd.
Note, my head flows more than stock (200cfm)- so it's likely that stock trucks would have even more lag.

a mid or large t3 will still be laggy on a 2.4L 4cyl.
If you really want useable power, a good wide powerband on the 22RE, I suggest something along the lines of a T28. Specifically, the T28 from the Nissan pulsar GTiR. It's the largest T28 you can find. Should have full boost by 3krpm at the latest, and will provide excellent low and midrange torque/power where the truck needs it most, without falling off up top.
If you're just looking for peak numbers and nothing else, just shoot for a t3/t4 as they're cheaper and easier to find than most t3's.
Avoid the t3 super 60.....pile of crap turbo.
the pulsar GTiR T28 can be found on ebay occasionally, but more specifically on nissan SR20 web forums like sr20forum.com, etc...for anywhere between $200 and $400.
BTW, what you really need to make a good comparison is a dyno chart with a boost chart to overlay and find out exactly where boost hits in relation to the power curve.
That t04b isn't nearly close to its efficiency range at 7psi, either......you're better off getting a smaller turbo than that and running a higher boost level. Bigger turbos usually aren't efficient at lower psi like smaller turbos. That T04b won't really 'wake up' until 15-20psi or so.

Yes, I need a dyno run.. waiting on a wastegate gasket and an intercooler..
There are some great T3 flanged, T28 framed turbos you can get off of the R33+ Skyline. Ball bearing, water cooled. Not rebuildable, so be careful what you buy.

Non-GTR turbo skylines run small T3's with PLASTIC compressor wheels, which, you guessed it, will disintegrate at 11-13psi.
Ball bearing turbos in general aren't rebuildable, you have to buy an entirely new center section, which, while cost-prohibitive, usually isn't necessary as ball bearing turbos are fairly stout. I've run and beaten on GT28R's for a while and they're great turbos.
I'd like to see a T3 spool up to 10psi by 1300rpm on 2.4L displacement, because I don't know any vehicles that can do that other than large displacement diesels like cummins........
My turbo 350z running a 60-1 didn't make full boost until 3500ish rpm, and it's 3.5L displacement!
