Exclamation RPM jump with steady increase in throttle

I have a '90 Pickup, V6, 4x4, manual trans. When i press the accelerator slowy from idle the RPMs get up to around 1500 and then immediately jump to near full throttle. What could be casuing this? TPS? Throttle body? Vacuum? I have been searching and cannot find anything on this. Thanks.

Sounds like your clutch is gone, the same thing happened to me. One day it worked then the next day i was going skiing and the rpm's shot through the roof when i hit the gas. There was a little resistance at first then the rpm's climb up.

Wow i didn't thnik about clutch slipage..... that is indeed possible. Are you drving down the road or taking off and all of the sudden you stop moving but ur motor is reving? thus may be time for a clutch.

it happens even in neutral. sitting still, slowly pushing the accelerator and then bam, the RPMs just go way up. no slipping of the clutch, although i'm sure it is pretty worn (like everything on this truck)
