Rotating #4 cylinder to top position? (22R)

I've currently got my 22R engine apart to change the timing chain. I decided to have a guy (The "Thread Doctor") come and fix my #4 spark plug hole which is cross-threaded.

I need to rotate the engine so the #4 piston is right at the very top so he can suck out any metal shavings through the spark plug hole.

The distributor is removed but I should probably re-fit the timing chain so I don't bash any valves.

Question:
By looking at the camshaft/valve positions, how do I tell that the #4 piston is at the top?

Thanks guys

you can watch the valves go through their cycles if you put the timing chain back on along with the valvetrain stuff. you could also get a flashlight and look through the sparkplug hole.

...what position should the #4 valves be in?

I'm going to guess that if the exhaust valve is open, that means the piston is at the top?

should be at the top just before the exhaust closes. If you look through the spark plug hole it'll probably be easier. Or take the head off if you're planning on ripping everything apart.

You probably dont want it at tdc though so the tap doesent hit it. Use grease on the tap to catch the shavings, and keep pulling it out to clean it off, and re grease it
