I took my hard top on and off two or three times in the six months I had my 4runner before I got my soft top. One time I got the top back on same day, the other two times I threw a tarp over it and used bungee cords ran underneath the 4runner to hold the sides together and keep it in place pretty well.

But ever since I got the soft top, it's like topless heaven. If rain is coming, 1.5 minutes and she's all covered up.

Theft isn't an issue out here. The wildlife will inhabit your vehicle in one night before something gets stolen.

I paid $150 for mine. I got it used off of craigslist. It is pretty much 100% waterproof except for where my right left zipper is ripped. A little rain can get through there iff it's comign down really hard and at an angle. And you may get a little water coming in (like drops) in the rear corners if you don't have the rails placed PERFECTLY. I don't know how bad it is in the northwest, but in the summer here we have 1-2 heavy rain t-storms per week and I have no worries leaving it out in the rain with the top up. Even with my ripped zipper the carpet under it is never wet. And the small spot that could let water in at the bottom of the corner where the side flap and rear flap separate....if water DOES get through there, it runs straight down along the tailgate and out the bottom, never getting inside.

I got a soft top from softtopper.com. It is awesome here in Eastern NC where our forecast is a chance of thunderboomers every afternoon.
