is ripping the back bumper off unlawful?

i live in maryland (baltimore county if that matters) and im wondering if it is against the law to drive around with no back bumper because with all of the rust on it it would look better without the bumper.

That is somthing to go ask locally..
I know here its not required for trucks..

in IL all vehicles must have a both bumpers

I believe in my state (NY) is it not required for pickup trucks. You can buy trucks without rear bumpers, well some models.
