rhino lining the cargo area
what do y'all think about rhino lining the cargo area of a 2nd gen 4runner? good or bad idea? how much would this cost to get done the right way?

I had rhino lining in my Tundra. I hated it. I would never put that stuff on a vehicle, especially a pickup. First, the shait stinks and the smell never goes away. Secondly, it it slippery and anything I put in the bed had to be tied down hard or completely blocked from moving. 3 - Here in AZ with lots of sun, that black crap starts to "powder" after on year and looks like hell. So, you spray or have it spayed in to do what?.... It certainly doesn't add any "bling" to the vehicle! So you save the bed from what? Getting a little scratched up, or dinged up? It's a pickup! I've hauled everything from sand to 700 lb. boulders in my trucks. If I think I'm going to scratch up the paint or ding the bed, I put some 3/8" OSB down, or some cardboard. My current '86 came with a bedliner, which I don't like, but because I've been hauling rocks, sand, bricks, and pavers, I just left it in for now.

Rhino lining in the back of a runner would be perfect for my situation, I'm in construction, so it would be nice for hauling tools. If you end up doing it, let me know what you think of it. Is there a way they could go up the rear seats?

you could definatly have it go up the back seats, you would just have to build new panels and put the liner on them. I have thought about doing this and would want to do the back of the seats too if I did.

thanks man. i used rustolem bed liner in the can. its wasnt to bad to get it off just took some time. i used a chilsel and some cleaner to get the rest off. ya you will like it alot if you end up doin it. just make sure you prep it good. i sanded mine with 50 grit sandpaper then rubbing alcohal to clean it.

seems like the more rhino lining the better. Some are lining their entire vehicle and that's not a bad idea. Now there is a chance of doing it in the cargo area which I think is pretty sweet. I'd like to do it on my old "chrome"-ish 3 spokes, that'd look nice I think.

Remember the old station wagons our grandparents always had? Remember the hinged metal plate that transversed the cargo area to give a solid covering for the gap that the seat created when it was folded down? The back of the seats were metal too. Hell, the sides were even metal in the older ones. I'm planning on re-creating the rear area of my grandpa's 60's buick station wagon in my 1st gen!

lol idk, i just feel like if you used that stuff everyday it would come back to haunt you, its like a cold tar almost and it stick to EVERYTHING and it will only come off with acetone, oh and unless you literally bathe in acetone, it wont come off your skin for 3-4 weeks

Used in a well ventilated area with proper clothes and gloves it is fine. Just need to take a few precautions. its not going to kill you. well unless you drink it or something. I used to coat a 85 4runner from fire wall to tailgate. Herculiner is a little more rubbery than rhino so things do not slide as easy plus its way cheaper. It is better quality than the duplicolor stuff too. I highly recommend it.
