Reving instead of accelerating while driving, gears 2 thru5
Greetings, I had post a concern I had, but didn't get enoughfeedback, so here I am again. My 91 toy has been Reving instead of accelerating in gear 2-5.
Tranny is topped an also is the rear Diff.
i wasn't sure if it was either one that was the issue The 2 response I received was 1. The Transmission . 2 Clutch. Because that was my only choice, I went for a free estimate from AAMCO. I was told it was the Clutch, which they wanted $670 ouch.
well, I decided to drop the tranny, which took me all day to my disbelief. The reason I'm posting again to my disappointment is that I did a long days work because I want to get my toy running again, the problem is. " What does the clutch has to do With the truck Reving and not accelerating" Can someone please explain. So I can have an answer for myself. I am the one doing the labor😰😰. And would like a reason for what I'm doing. Not only to get it running, but How and Why. Thanks much, hope to get some info.

The clutch is what couples the engine to the transmission.
Slipping clutch= reving instead of accellerating.
Mechanical advantage is greatest in lower gears, so your truck will still move in first gear, while more torque is required to move the truck in higher gears= no accelleration.
It's the clutch. Remove the flywheel and have it machined/resurfaced, or just replace it with a new one.
For regular service, a new Aisin clutch is the best.

It's your clutch. In a manual transmission that's the coupling between engine and transmission and it eventually wears out (just like brake pads) google a YouTube video of how a manual transmission works and you will see why it wears out the clutch over time.

That makes a lot of sense. You guys are the best, thanks for your time and understanding. That's the reason why I invest time an finance in my Yota, not only to have it done by the shop but to have the understanding of how it works.
What are your views on an AutoZone Duralast brand clutch set $100 bucks for a life time warranty? Just asking thanks again.

You can get the real thing for similar cost.
Check ebay for Aisin clutch kits for your application.
Not absolutely sure this kit is correct for your application, but you get the idea:

The cost of the clutch is not the issue ...it is replacement cost or time if you do it. Buy a Aisin or Exedy. You do not want to pull the transmission again to swap out a free clutch. Also swap your rear main seal while there and the Transmission front seal to stop or prevent oil leaks. If you have a groove on your crankshaft where the rear main rises you may want to get a seal saver from LC Engineering for 8 bucks too. I just replaced all this on mine last year and not a drop of oil. I bought the Street OEM clutch kit from them but you can't go wrong with a Aisin one either.
