Replacing engine.....What else d oI need?

I have an 86 4runner and am replacing the engine and clutch. The truck is a DD and the engine is coming from Jasper(through my research this seems the best for what I need),. The clutch is coming from Marlin. What I need help with is figuring out what else I need to Replace/Repair while the engine is out? What needs to be serviced? Manifolds? What am I missing?

resurface the flywheel? i'm not a big transmission guy, but i would look into that if i was doing mine.

keep posting with your status with that jasper motor. i think thats the way i am heading soon with mine. i've had real good luck with their stuff. i've had some experience with their warranty stuff too, no questions asked on an HD transmission that i wouldnt warranty, cause it tows some heavy stuff.

Most everyone I know that's used Jasper for engine/trannys are very satisfied with them.

To answer your question though, now is a good time to have your alternator and starter checked out and rebuilt if needed. Find out who the local shops send their stuff to. Also replace your water pump if you are still on the original one. You always want to use new belts and hoses when installing a brand new engine to.

Engine replacement - Other items to consider

Here is what I did or considered for my engine replacement:

New clutch
Remote oil filter kit (no more mess under the filter)
Spark plugs, ignition wires, cap, rotor
Miscellaneous toyota gaskets instead of the ones in the kit, new exhaust studs and nuts
Replace alternator brushes
Thermostat
Drain and Replace Power Steering Fluid
New belts
Vaccum hoses
Fuel filter (much easier with engine out of the truck)
Engine mounts (if worn)
Cooling and heater system hoses
Hoses under the intake manifold (They are attached to the exhaust manifold via the rear of the engine)
Radiator clean up if needed
