Replacing BVSV on 3.0L
In searching for the cause of my mpg issue (11-12 mpgs), I found that the coolant temp sensor wire is sheered off at the sensor and the bvsv valve has both nibs broken off. I can repair the wire for the coolant temp sensor, but will have to replace the entire bvsv. I am going to attempt to tackle this tomorrow. Can the bvsv be removed without major work, or does the intake plenum have to be removed to gain access? Thanks.

You can bypass the BVSV valve all together (As long as its not leaking coolant), It opens up near 90F deg.
The hoses run from the throttle body to the hard line behind the upper intake manifold and from there to the charcoal canister.
I have ran this way for years and passes smog with no problems.
There is only about (up to) 3 lbs of vacuum put to the charcoal canister.

I don't think you can access the BVSV ("thermal vacuum valve") with the plenum in place. Removing the plenum isn't that bad, just take good notes of where everything connects. I advise a hair dryer (or a heat gun with a very light touch) to warm up the rubber hoses that are reluctant to come off.
Bypassing the BVSV/TVV will make the engine run rougher when cold, but it has nothing to do with smog. So if you can tolerate a little rough idle when cold, that is an option.

Thanks guys. I was looking at it tonight and I think I can replace it using some crows feet. I am reluctant to remove the intake as I never had luck with gaskets and I am sure when going to put it back together, it will leak.
