Replacement Glass for a Camper Shell?

Allright guys, I usually don't post much because i find everything i need through use of the search function. This time, however, I need some input.

A couple of months ago i acquired a camper shell for my truck because i needed to keep my equipment dry and secure. For the past week or so that it sat unused in my backyard my little sister decided it was a good time to practice her swing. To make a long story short she ultimately ended up shattering the rear glass with a golf club. Im mad, but what else can i do but to look for a replacement. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it possible to get new glass or would it be best to get a new camper? I only paid about $80 for it so, i dont want to spend a fortune on just the glass. Also, i think this camper is the original to a 1986 pickup from factory. At least that's what the owner told me, so i'd like to keep it.

Any help is apreciated! I want to get this fixed before it starts snowing!

take pictures, take measurements, and surf craigslist for a crappy camper shell (with the rear glass intact). if that doesn't work, see if there's a camper shell dealer/installer nearby. i'm sure they can help you out

the frames are welded , so replacing your glass is probabally the best idea if you can alum. weld , or know someone who can , only a couple of "tacks" . I rebuilt my trekker windows , which would be very simular .. thing is , though , the glass piece I had cut was a hundred bucks . dont know what your pricing would be like down there , but you might want to talk to a glass shop first .

my repair if it helps

I believe your shell uses universal fit framed glass, see the bolts around the frame. You just have to find one that fits then reseal with bolts and butyl tape, JC Whitney may sell them. Also your shell is not painted to match doubt if was factory or dealer add on.

Go talk to your local glass shop and see what they can do. I broke mine and they took the frame off, made a pattern, ordered up the glass, replaced it, and I put the tint on.

I've had plexi cut to fit oddball things. Local glass store can do it, and it's cheapo.

This is what I had to do. My glass shattered and the local glass shop had it fixed in a few hours. Took out the frame, cut it to fit, and put it back in...

I agree with the glass shop idea. A fried did that on a camper shell for his Ranger. Reasonable and easy.

i had a shell on my old truck that looked exactly like it. someone kids went on a neighborhood rampage and threw a rock through the back flip window. i ended up going to a general glass shop and ordered a piece of tinted plexiglass from them. it was only like $30-40 and all I had to do was take frame off, trace it, cut the plexi on table saw (or you can do by hand with jigsaw/skilsaw), drill the old rivets out and put new ones in with a bead of silicone to seal everything up. good as new.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like a glass shop would be my best bet. How those the plexiglass hold up? Is it as good as the original glass?

I used Lexan when I had to replace a glass panel... it won't yellow and stands the weather a lot better then Plexi...
cut it myself with a jigsaw...

i got lucky and scored a piece of Makroln off craigslist.
anyway it is similar to Lexan and better than Plexiglass. I am using it in a frameless application on the back hatch of the my trekker.
