Replacement for broken leaf springs

My 1990 pickup has a broken leaf spring and I will need to replace the pair. Should be simple enough except I am not entirely sure if they are the stock springs or lifted (I am 3rd owner of this truck). I suspect it has a slight lift.

The truck has the factory 31" tires and has the apparently rare 7' longbed.

I would like to keep the same height as it is so I am wondering if I need stock springs or 1" or 2" lift springs.

Can somebody here tell me how to find out? Maybe if somebody knows how to measure stock height etc so I can compare. Or maybe just from seeing the photo below?

Thanks in advance, John

I couldn't see any markings on the springs but they are very rusty.

Judging from your first pic, I would say they have been re arched or something similar. How did it ride before the spring broke ?

It's always been a very stiff ride, almost harsh.

thanks, John

The shackles are ~ 3-3/8" long, center to center. I don't know how long stock shackles are.

Thanks, John

This shows stock measurements for the front: http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/t...ent-19258.html

Compare that to your front and then compare your front to your back.

A closer pic of the springs and shackles might help.

Wow, cool truck!

Have you considered something aftermarket like Old Man Emu?

mt_goat, that's exactly the information I needed! Thanks a bunch! It also lists the part numbers for the torsion bar adjusting hardware which I anticipate breaking.

I measure about 15-1/4" from top of rim to fender lip (keeping in mind the chrome trim there). So the truck must be lifted 1-1/2" or 2".

Here are some (hopefully) better pics of the rear springs. You can see the broken leaf right above the axle on driver's side.

Rustbucket, thanks and i am also thinking the OME springs, they seem to be just what i will need.

Cheers, John

Also if you want to get fancy and do a little fabbing the 63" chevy leaf swap is a great mod. I have it on my 4Runner and it rides great.
