Repair estimate

Well I got a damage report for my truck today, not pretty. I need idler arm, wheel bearing for passanger side, gasket on front hubs and axle bushings for passanger side. Stealership quoted me 1000-1200 bucks. What would you guys expect to pay?

Not quitre sure, but if the Stealership quoted you that much, I would take about 30% off that price. Good luck.

I'm not sure what to expect for the other things, but I have read elsewhere that you could expect to pay about $50 for the wheel bearings (if Toyota, less if Timken). I would check out some of the threads of the guys here (Strap22) if you want to get OEM parts for cheaper.

I would imagen the axle bushings wore out over time. but who ever owned the truck before me had work done and they didn't replace the gaskets on the hub allowing water to flow in and screw my wheel bearing. I would also chock the idler arm up to normal wear and tear.

I had my previous owner tell me that the AC worked great (yeah sure...but there was no belt on the compressor!). Almost as good as the time when I was a young dumb kid and bought a CJ-7 that was a year older than me....the owner told me that the mustang power seats were pretty sweet with all of the adjustments. After I bought the jeep I was poking around and noticed that all the wires for the adjustments weren't attached to anything! Oh well, live and learn I guess!

Its one little thing. My dad knows the guy and he is very anal about how he takes car of autos. So this was probably something he had paid to have done and they didn't put gaskets on. But no harm no faul. Me and my dad are going to attempt to do most of the work on this one.

Shop around - if you are going to do it yourself, I'm sure you could find those parts for less than $300.00

Unbelievable.. If you do it yourself, it shouldn't cost you any more than 200 bucks. Definitely talk to (strap22), or follow the links in his sig. You can get OEM parts at a very good price.

will do thanks guys. I was going to go to a couple of football games and the parties afterward tonight but I guess that will have to wait. Damn this happens at the worst time as is true with almost all automotive repairs.

Let me ask you guys a question. On the tech write up page for steering spindle bearing replacement it calls for 2 bushings and 2 bearing. Is this for the replacment of one spindle or both?

I think the write-up you are refering to is one that explains how to replace the bushings with bearings.

Each spindle has 2 bushings on the inside. No bearings on the inside. The only bearings down there are the two wheel bearings that ride on the outside of the spindle.

thanks for your help. I called in a favor from one of my dad's friends who I helped build a 67' mustand fastback with a shelby aluminum 426. As if letting me drive it wasn't enough. One of his friends has worked for just about every shop in town and is now in business for him self. He's going to do it for almost the cost of parts.
