find a machine shop and have them resurface it. make sure that the cam turns freely before that!!!!!!!!!!

Would I need one of those thicker head gaskets then since the head won't be as thick? I already bought a standard head gasket and head bolts.

I want to make sure I do this right the first time so I don't have another leak in 6 months.

Look on the underside of the head. There are 3 or 4 dimples on one side(intake or exhaust-not sure which). If you can still see them you should be OK to have it milled. Just don't go beyond those markers.
