Removing Anti-Lock Brake Sensor??
Okay so I bought a 4cyl diff that is locked. I want to put into the rear end of my 4Runner, but my current diff has an Anti-Lock brake sensor on the top. Is it possible to remove it since my new diff does not have the opening for the sensor?

My sensor went bad so I jammed a resistor in the plug.carbon resistor from radio shack 680-ohm.The part number is:271-1117 they come in packs of five
Just unplug your sensor and fold the resistor leads so they fit in the plug The end that goes to the truck not the sensor.tape er up and your done!Mine has been like that for a couple years now and no abs light.

I went through this about 2 weeks ago.
My old diff (4cyl) was whining and making all kinds of noises.
So I bought a used complete 3rd member (4cyl) to swap in from a local Toyota parts guy.
This replacement 3rd member didn't have the Rear Anti Lock sensor on the top. It was sealed. I'm not a big fan of abs anyway, so after popping out my old SEIZED 3rd. I put my Detroit EZ locker in this one, pressed in new pinion bearings, set it all up nice, and threw it in to my truck. I'm not a big fan of abs anyway, and the sensor broke when pulling the old 3rd member.
Started it up and immediately my "Rear Anti Lock" light came on.
It gets a little annoying to look at. Haven't got around to pulling the bulb or coloring in the anti part. so it says "REAR LOCK"
Now when I finally get around to re-gearing my truck. (Currently 4.10's)
I have this other 3rd member to mess around with.
What I'm trying to say here is, don't worry about it.
Just remove the sensor, and tie it out of the way. Your dummy light will be on, but you will have much more fun with the locked rear.

When I put in 5.29's in the back, I just removed the ABS sensor, but left it plugged in.. tied out of harms way to the body with a zip tie.
I got no idiot light. I had no perceptible loss in brake performance.
I have since removed the LPSV, ABS system and drums completely during a disc brake conversion.
Still no brake light and now the plug has just been cut off.
So, it seems like it may be vehicle year or pure luck that dictates if your light will go on... but in either case your brakes will still work. I think without the ABS sensor on the 3rd you'll loose ABS functionality, but there are still several other components that control ABS once the sensor is removed... so maybe it will still work half ass.
