Reman'd engine q's...
Hey guys, I originally was going to do a 3.4 swap, however I was unable to find an eligable donor. So, i going to go with a reman'd engine being that my truck is my daily driver, and more importantly the stripers are starting to run in the surf and i just spent 300 bucks on a beach permit for that reason. so i Gotta get my rig back on the road soon. Anyway, I was looking for some opinions and experiences with different companies. I know orient engine has a good rep, so im considering them. Has anyone used Portland Engine Rebuilders Inc. They caught my eye because of their great warranty(as long as I own the truck they will warranty it) which will greatly benefit me because I plan on this being my surf rig for many years to come. I'm open to all suggestions, but the 3.4 and all engine swaps are out of the question, due to my time restraint.
Thanks again. The knowledge you guys (and girls) possess has been invaluable to me.I don't know where Me and my Runner(1992 3.0 Automatic)would be without you guys.

I bit the bullet 5-6 years ago now (and well on 60K+ miles) and bought a jasper for my truck.
i have been very happy with its performance.
It should be noted that at .030 over it wants to run a tad more warm that a stock motor, but ive been told that is to be expected of a bored motor.

One thing to consider with the Orient warranty are the conditions that void the warranty.
I looked at it and be sure with any of these options that you follow the conditions to a T.
For instance on the orient warranty they mandate that after a short period of time you have the valves adjusted. If you can do this yourself no big deal I guess. But if you have to pay to have it done, that is some more major $$$.
Failure to do so would void your warranty should you have a problem. Just make sure and read the fine print with these warranties.

I considered the Oregon folks. I called and tried to ask all the relevant questions. I think I was talking to the big cheese. I asked how long he'd been in business and IIRC he said something like 15 years. I started thinking about the "lifetime warranty" they offered and thought, "Who's lifetime?" When the company goes under or gets sold upon the owner's retirement or death what's the status of your warranty? I'm with you. I want to drive my truck to the mountains, to the desert, to baja . . . for many more years. I decided to go with a company with a good reputation that's also big enough to be around for another 15 years. My Jasper is going in before the end of the month . . . . I hope. Good luck!

My dealer installed ATK has let me down 2x's so far. Had to redo the timing chain guides after 20K and the head gasket + bad exhaust valves went at 50k. Plus it didn't sound any better than the motor that got taken out. If I had to do it again, I'd go with Jasper, heard nothing but good things about them.
