Man TC and Goat, that changes everything, I am going to check into that to see what my R's would be at 55mph in 5th with 5.71's and Interco Bogger 33's. I only care to do 55 on the way to the trails. So many da*n people have told me no no don't go with 5.71's.

In general that is probably a safe statement for manual trannies, but it is not so good advice for an auto tranny because the 5th gear on an 5-speed is lower than the 4th gear on an auto.

This is the best gear calculator I've seen, it has most of the different trannies pre-programed in. Just select your tranny, tire size, and gear ratio of question.

For example, with a Toyota R150 or R150F 5-speed your rpms at 55 mph in 5th gear with 5.71s and 33" tires would be 2686 rpms.

Which is still kinda low - gonna be downshifting a bunch.

even with the 5vz in my taco running 33x1250's on stock gears displays some serious power lossage at higher RPM's. Its also a lot harder on the stock clutch so if your clutch doesnt have a lot of meat left i wouldnt recomend it. Though with a 22RE i dont think it would be a problem since the clutch doesnt have to translate near as much power.

I have 4.56 with 33's, 3.slow and 5-spd. The engine is between 2800 and 2900 at 70 mph. I choose this over 4.88's since 90% of my driving is on freeway. Even with this combo, I can reasonably accelerate on overpasses in 5th. The math says that 4.88 with 33 are about 3% lower geared and 4.56 with 33's are about 3% higher geared, compared to stock.

Ok, now i really dont know what to do. . . . I was going to order the lift and tires tonight, along with a MC stinger bumper. But it's looking like i'm going to have to regear . . . . dropping the extra 1000 bucks for changing the gears might be too much for me.

I know its not for everyone, but have you checked into re-gearing it yourself. It takes alot of dedication, care and most of all time to get it right. You can get the parts for about $450 I think.

Oh, I checked the gear calculator and If I go with 5.29's, my final gearing should be about dead on stock, but I would like it a little lower than that so maybe I will go with the 5.71's since I don't have a need for over 55. It is real hilly here in AK and I would be happy if I could go 55 up a hill.

Brought a big ole smile to mine. 5.71's auto on 35's. (3slow) *almost* like having a crawler...

You can always check the classifieds on the forums. Alot of times people who are upgrading from 4.88's to 5.29's will just sell the gears with the 3rd member. Then all you'll have to do is pull the old 3rds and put the new ones in. If you can find one local, might end up saving a couple hundred if you can just pick them up.

Offroad anyways ... sucks going uphill or into a headwind (god forbid you have both at the same time!) on the highway though.
