K so.. My luck is horrible enough that I actually seized my engine (see other thread..)

I still haven't torn it down to see whats wrong but would it be easier to drop in a new engine or rebuild mine? I'm down for doing anything though I've never done anything like this before, I have a garage and most of the right tools available.

I have a 3vze.

 

I vote Rebuild.

I think Zathlim would probably agree. After this engine swap...easy enough we have both experienced problems with (known good) engines.

Can I say head gasket

 

So where do I start, what do I need to do? My brother said I had to get a lot of machined..

 

This may sound like an odd question but are you sure it's seized up?

i can't make it move with no compression (no plugs or intake manifold)
didn't try wd40 or anything to loosen anything up
if something else is stuck, man, it must be ing stuck!

the throttle body was in' dirty and muddy tho, def a bad sign

i pretty much want to get it towed back to the garage before i do anything else..

exact play-by-play:
got stuck in mud, not sure weather the water killed it or if i stalled from loss of momentum in gear..

Got pulled out of mud, batt was dead, pulled it to try and jump start it, pretty sure engine was moving fine. Couldn't do that after a bit, left it, came back, boosted, almost turned over, engine got stuck, pushed truck back and forth (by hand, not my suggestion either) in gear to loosen it up, almost turned over again then got stuck, repeated once more, and this time when it got stuck it wouldn't move.. We tried pushing it back and forth again to loosen it up but to no avail.. Every time it did loosen up by us pushing it, something sounded like it was not right, and I think something could have broke. Couldn't even pull it and have the tires move.. Thought it would just be hydro-locked at this point but we pulled the plugs the other day and it still wouldn't move.. Even tried letting it roll a bit and dropping the clutch.. No movement, tires locked instantly.



My next things to try were going to be:

- wd40 or something in cylinders to hopefully loosen it up?
- check and make sure some mud isn't cemented to the starter/flywheel (would be hard to believe considering how hard we pushed it)
- breaker bar on crank to try and turn it..

Now how hard is it to actually break something within the engine? I suppose this could definitely depend on wear but is it feasible that we broke something rocking it by hand?

 

New engine. 3.4L is my vote

 

da... go to a local junk yard and find the 3.4... i personally dont mind the 3.0, but if its already toast, save your money and just do a swap...

 

I too dont mind the 3.0, but i am addicted to more power, other wise i'd keep my 3.0. i get 125RWHP with my 3.0 and if i can get over 200 with a S/C 3.4L then that is the way i will go.
Also, by rebuilding, all your doing is trying to escape the inevitable. the 3.4L is just more reliable than a rebuilt 3.0 or 22re

2nd gen 4runner that was stripped and some crazy yota van

that was out of like 2000 cars.

 

not sure where you are from, but i know that there are some great Toyota Recyclers here in the sacramento CA area... one of the better ones is TAP recycling... http://www.taprecycling.com/
might be able to find something there and maybe they ship...
or just look for a toyota recycler in your area...

If all your accesories are intact, you could look up ebay there are some rebuilt long blocks on there and that would save your machining problem and then you don't get a "mystery" motor. Pretty cheap at 1595$. I just did a complete rebuild on my 94, a lot of work! Bought the parts off ebay compltete kit and heads shipped to my door for 1200! Now every part is new or rebuilt under the hood if you have the experience that might be a way for you too?
