Question rebuild or buy new

i have a 86 toyota pickup with a 22r motor carbed and the slip rings in the alternator are worn 3/4 of the way through. what caused this and cani use parts off a used one,are all the routers the same?

I have not looked for Denso slip rings, but they're probably out there. Maybe Ebay?? I have bought several denso brush cassettes there.

I have rebuilt numerous Ford alternators, including new slip-rings. Some times you can press the new rings on and they will be concentric with the shaft, but if they are out more than a couple thousandths, the new rings really need to be made true on a lathe.

It is always good to rebuild components if you possibly can, it just makes you feel good to do it. and it always gives a you a better understanding of what is really going on with your machine.

As to what's the same??? I can't say. If you've got others take 'em apart and measure.

How much oil do you burn for fill up to fill up? Is this truck your daily?

They are confusing the slip rings with the piston rings !!

I had to think for a minute as well

Most likely have no idea what slip rings are !!

my slip rings are in the alternator and no this is not my daily driver
