Rebuild advice for 3VZE please?

Thinking about a rebuild for 93 3VZE....

I have a 1993 Pickup V6 SR5 4x4.
250,000 miles or thereabouts.
Clean straight body, no rust.
It starts and runs great but of course it uses some oil and does not have the power it once had. I did the timing belt and idlers and waterpump less than 5,000 miles ago. (about a year ago)

I am keeping the truck and I am thinking about a rebuild of the engine and maybe gearbox to freshen it up.

I used to be on the forums in the past but I am now out of touch with what is going on.

I am thinking about just getting a core in a wrecking yard and rebuilding it offline myself and just swapping it in sometime during the summer over a weekend.

What I want to know is:
ENGINE
Are there any good master kits for the engine that will make this easier that are from good vendors?
If you have done this, how much did you spend end to end to have the Gearbox ready to drop in?

GEARBOX
Which Gearbox am I likely to have?
Which transfer case?
Are there any good master kits for the Gearbox that will make this easier that are from good vendors?

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin you have been away to long!!!

Do you really want to put all that money in the 3.0 quite a few of us have gone the 3.4 route .

Besides you can`t be buying parts till everything is apart and inspected and measured .

I can understand if your in the I love my 3.0 Engine crowd.

Thank you for the reply Wyoming9.
I have not read anything on the 3.4 swaps at all. I have no idea what is needed but I am willing to read. Honestly, it is an old truck and the 3.0 gave good service. It towed when needed and all the rest.

I know that I need to measure the block and crankshaft first before ordering parts. That is why I would just pick up a core engine is so I can do the rebuild offline. I will not take the truck out of service until the swap time.
I am not hugely worried about the price difference between 0.010" or 0.020" bearing shells or the difference between 0.020" pistons and 0.040" pistons.
I am just looking to know who the players are in the market that can give me a decent quality kit. The 3.0 had enough horsepower to do what I needed.

Now, if the 3.4 would give better fuel economy, then I might be interested. Fuel will not be $2/gal for ever.

Kevin
