Rear window Issues

Rear window questions

we just purchased a 1991 toyota 4runner 4x4, and we are working on the rear window, i have tried to replace the Rear windows Relay with one from a 1995 that ruskyMX was parting out, the motor functions well if direct power is applied.

the Key and the Switch will make the door go up, but does not go down, the rear window wiper doesn't work either, any idea of where i should start would be great, i am going to get some contact cleaner today on the way home and see if that helps. when trying to put it down we do hear a click in the relay box, both of the relays is doing the same.

i tested the switch in the center console last night, we with Key on Ignition off i would see like 10 volts, and then when we started the truck it would go up to 12. and if we pushed the switch down the up portion would have 0volts and all power would then be towards the down side and vice versa, my only question is does anyone know if this switch is bad will it stop the Key from working properly as well? any help is appreciated.

I would check the switch, or relay for the wiper. If the wiper isnt all the way up, the window won't go down. Same goes for if the window is down, the wiper won't engage, I'm not sure where the switches or relays. Hope it helps man

I had semi-rebuilt my relay a while back when I was first learning electronics (which is why it needs to be redone)..Sometimes the wires in the connector need to be "jiggled" to make a better contact. Try checking the wires from there to the back door. Might just be a loose connection somewhere.

You could always test the switch by jumping the wires needed to roll it up and down. If it works without the switch connected then you know you have a bad switch. Not sure what those wires are being a 91, but there are plenty of FSMs floating around with schematics in them.
