Rear Leaf Blocks

Did 3rd gen pickups come stock with rear blocks, because my 89 has some under the leafsprings about 1in (maybe 2in) tall, I does look a bit taller than other yotas I see driving around here...but I dont know anyone else with a truck like mine to compare to...I am running 30-9.50's now...but I want to jump up to 33s soon, and I want to know if it has a lift on it...there are picks in my signature of the truck.

Heres what I am talking about:

Yeah, here are some...

This one is from over a year ago, I think the tires were 28in tall...I did the metric conversion. I had the truck for about 2 months then (i got rid of the euro taillights, extra "off-road" lights (that never worked right) mudflaps, and got rearended since then :

Here it sits now on 30-9.5:

I know...I hate those stripes, I am going to herculine over them (when I get some money)... If you think that is bad, look at the tailgate:

I think the previous owner was stuck in the 80's...haha

A complete paint job is in "The Yota's" near future

I was thinking that they might have cranked up the torsion bars, because the truck rides really rough, which means they would need to level out the back...Ill take some better pics of that tomorrow, and Ill take a pic of the CV angles, they are kindof steep...its not like a 4 in lift or anything, because the stock front skidplate fits. (The previous owner took it off to do the timing chain, and forgot to put it back on, but I saw him the other day, and he gave it to me...great luck...lol)

those blocks are bad, its when you go over 3in they are bad, but still drop them drop your torsion bars and get bj spacers and shackles or a 2in body.

Yeah, I dont like body lifts, so that is out of the question...But I do want to lower the torsion bars and get rid of the blocks...the blocks are really short actually...they are waaaayyy less than 3in tall though!! I never have had any trouble with them!

I think those are 3" blocks. The brake cable will not fit UNDER the springs with anything shorter BUT in your pic, the truck doesn't seem to set that high in the rear.

Oh yeah 3" blocks, I compaired your pic to a pic of mine with 3" blocks and 31's. If you want to put 33" tires on don't worry. Blocks are a cheezy way and they have their down sides, but since you still have the loads leafs the added axle wrap won't bend the springs.

On the front, pick you up some ball joint spacers and take some pre-load off the torsion bars to level the truck. This will give you added front wheel travel. Also with 1-1/2" longer shackels and longer shocks your rear can flex like this and you'll have a well flexing truck on 33s:

Who makes a good ball-joint spacer...and how easy are they to install? Yeah I think the torsion bars are cranked...heres a pic of the CV angles:

(p.s. if you look close, you can see a torn CV boot...maybe the torsion bars are the cause??)

Here is the rear blocks with a tape measurer:

P.S. I know that my truck is clean...I havent been able to do any offroading lately, so I just clean it extra good!

What would you suggest for some new shocks? I was thinking something like OME...I have some tools, and I am only 17, but I really would like to do this myself!

Well I almost did say they where 2" but I know my e-brake cable bearly cleared when I had 3" blocks. You should check to make sure the cable is not rubbing the springs first of all.

Ball joint spacers are cake to install and run in the $100 range. They just go on top of the ball joint with the four top bolts, no need to separate the ball joint from the knuckle. Do a quick search and enough should come up about the ball joint spacers.

Cv angles are not an issue with manuel hubs, torn boot is due to age. And it does look like your t-bars have some crank. If you add the ball joint spacers you should lower the t-bars to take some of the pre-load off. Also you should add lower profile upper control arm stops.

For shocks, it's really up to you. There is a Rancho shock that works with the ball joint spacers up front but I don't know the part #. As for the rear, I'd measure the extened and compressed lengths on the truck and find a shock that measures up and fits your price range.
