rear gate glass malfunction, video

I have searched, there are results in the hundreds, but I couldn't see anything like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yG0BkR3vZSU

Apologies if I missed something on the site. This noisiness has been going on for awhile now. If I manually pull the glass all the way closed neither direction will work, I can hear the motor going, but no movement, I have to push it down a little to get it to respond.

Hard to say. I think your best bet would be to remove the panel and take a peek inside. Its not that hard to get too.. Just pop off the carpeted cover, unbolt the panel and remove. remove the plastic (dont tear it).... I used RTV to seal that plastic back up when I was done..

ah the dreaded ckicking sound!!! well you wont find it cause its deep inside the gate what had happened was

the gear on your motor itself striped out and when it gets to that point it clicks from it jumping teeth i kno wthis cause i went though a gear my self and to replace just the gear you need to get a whole new motor and replace the motor it self even though the motor is fine and good the gear on the motor is shot!!! if i had pictures of mine i would show you but i dont so i cant lol

but yea ive had the same and thats what it is!!! take it apart and watch out when the motor comes off the window will slam into you so please use your head and jam a screw driver into the holes so it dont pop you in the tallywacker!!

thanks guys

I was hoping against the regulator being cooked, but like you say all signs point towards it. I did take the cover off awhile ago to look and couldn't see anything broken/missing, then again the view is quite limited in there

The motor could also be worn out. The motor housings are plastic, and with age they wear out and oval out, so they get hogged out.

Take it apart, and inspect the teeth on the regulator. If the teeth are ok, its the motor. take the motor out, and see if you can wiggle the gear on the motor. If it wiggles, its toast.

I think that plastic is there for condenstation protection, but there's a lot of moisture in there from the window being rolled down wet, so wouldn't it be better to remove the plastic and let the moisture out?

What years Camry can you take the motor from. I heard the motors for many Toyota are interchangeable, but another source said they were geared differently... any ideas on the accuracy of the statement?

Does it matter what side of the car it came off? I would guess they are the same from drivers to passengers. I'd want to find a drivers side rear ideally (well anything but drivers front) as those motors would have very low "miles" so to speak.
