Rear end question

I need some input, I have a 1994 4runner 2wd with 3:90 gears and i need to know if it's possible to take and just do a straight over swap of the whole rear end from a wrecked 1994 4runner with 4wd and a 4:56 gears. I've been wanting to upgrade my gears and I can pick up the whole rear 3rd member for $350.00

Thanks

that's a LOT of money for a 4.56 third. why are you wanting to do this? that's going to be a big difference from what you have now. better acceleration but much high RPMs on the freeway (unless you are compensating for bigger tires).

Bigger tires

Yeah, bigger tires is the main reason to change the 3rd, also i thought 350.00 would be cheaper than taking it in to get it re-geared for 1224.00...?
But what i need to know is if i can just do a straight swap over, take the whole rear axle set-up off mine and replace it with one off a wrecked 4runner.
Will they just match up or with I have to engineer it to fit.

i'm not 100% but i believe that if you have a 4cyl, you should be able to swap in any rear end from another 4cyl vehicle and vise versa with the 6cyl. hopefully someone else will speak up that knows more.

I have V6

Actually I have a V6 2wd, I was going to swap out the whole suspension but when my buddy got hit in his 4runner it wiped out the front end.

You would need to check if your rear axle is 7.5" or 8":

If it is 8", you should be able to swap 3rds. If not, you would need to swap the whole axle over. If you have 5-lug wheels, realize the 4WD axle will have 6-lugs.

Rear end is 7.5

My rear axle code on my 1994 2wd 4runner is G072, so according to the chart on OffRoad.com that means its a 7.5" with 3:90 gearing and i have 6 lugs. What i am trying to achieve here, is to swap out one rear end for another. What i want to avoid is opening up the pumpkin to change out the gears. Instead, what i was thinking is unbolt my rear end on my 4runner and slide the one from my buddies wrecked 1994 4wd 4runner in there because it has the bigger gears (axle code G252)...? from looking at it, it looks like it will just bolt up in place of mine, but i don't want to get under there wrench it all apart to find out it won't fit. So my question is, has anybody done a straight swap over like this...?
