rear end problems

rear end problems
i have an 87 4 runner its been good to me but was goin to store the other day and without any warning at all the rearend just let go.i can put the truck in gear and everything turns down to the rearend but the wheels dont.does anyone have any idea what has happened inside the rearend.i am debating on fixin it or replacing it.
