Rear brake shoe replacement.

My drivers side inner rear axle seal was leaking and soaked my brake shoes with gear oil. I replaced the inner/outter seals and wheel bearing and was wondering if I have to replace the brake shoes on both rear wheels or if I could do just the drivers side that was contaminated. My passenger side shoes have plenty of life left. Thank for you help!

You should always replace, shoes, drums, pads, or rotors in pairs. If you replace one side, replace the other to maintain even braking.

While you probably could, I wouldn't. I believe in trying to keep both side as equal as possible. It would probably be a good idea to have a look at the seals on the other side, too. If one side was gone, then the other probably isn't far behind.

The other part is that I have never seen a single set of shoes for sale at any reputable location.

Yep....they always come in a set brand new. No other way. And besides, you'll need a core. You do where I go, anyway.

Thanks for the info guys! I figured that since I have the drums off anyways I'll get them turned and put in new wheel cylinders too. That rear inner seal is a real PITA to get seated properly!
