I have a 92 pickup with the 22RE. My radiator which isn't but about 5 years old sprung a leak around the fill neck last year. I patched it with JB Weld and it has held until just the other day. One of my questions is does anyone know of any solders or epoxies that would be good to fix this problem. Or perhaps just JB weld it again. It is just a small hairline crack, but when the temp and pressure builds up it starts forcing a good bit of fluid out. My other questions are what PSI cap should I have and what temp thermostat should be on there. A buddy and I put the radiator in when the old one took a dump but I'm not sure if the cap and thermostat are the correct one. I am pretty sure the thermostat is correct because the temp has always been pretty consistent in the truck since I got it, but I am clueless with the cap rating.

 

You can try soldering the crack, that might work, or take it to a radiator shop and see if they can replace the top of your radiator. Im not sure about the radiator cap, i just use a stock cap on my 4Runner.

 

you could save up money and get a upull it radiator and drop it in, when it comes to things like that i just replace them cuz evenutally SOMEDAY it will have to be replaced.

Do yourself a huge favor...get a new radiator......one of the 1st things I ever did was to replace my crappy original one.....bought a SPECTRA from JCWhitney and new hoses too.

Toyota RED coolant is what the truck came with and is what will be run in my cooling system when I'm all back together too. Lot's of info / debate about coolant, but I don't really care to beat that to a pulp, it's what I'm going to do.

 

Cool thanks ya'll. The radiator is not the original, and got to looking when I got off work this morning and the cap that is on it is a 16psi. I think I will be putting a new one with the 13psi rating on. I was able to chip away the JB Weld and the radiator is not really cracked but where the neck goes into the main body is separating on the front side. I took the overflow line off and blew in and it definitely won't hold pressure. I still want to try some sort of solder just for the main fact that this is the only thing that is really wrong with the radiator. It appears that it is a copper or brass radiator. I bought it from advance auto parts about 5 years ago. Is there a certain solder that would work best. I was thinking maybe something like you would use on copper piping that was in older houses. Once I get it holding pressure again, it is definitely going to get a cooling system flush.

get a new radiator for the main fact that you be SOL if that thing blows on ya while going up a hill at 55 miles per hour in the top end of third gear....imagine how u would feel if your 22re is destroyed from a penny pinching shotty solder "puddle weld" lol
