What do yo7u mean by "died"? Dos the fan spin or not? If siezed, it'll just spin the fan all the time. What brand clutch did you use? I've had bad luck with the clutches from Napa, so now only use the stock Aisins from Toyota. I still have the original clutch that came in the '85 new (it is too stiff and does not disengage much) and I have the replacement I put in about 9 years ago.

when driving the engine is at normal temp, when i stop it starts to creep up until i start driving again. when its at operating temp i can reach in and stop the fan. i don't know what i replaced it with, and i can't get an aisin replacement as this is my only car, and the dealerships arn't open until monday.

Easy enough to drill a hole through the clutch and run a screw into it to make it one piece. But check the bimetal coiled spring. I found my old one was stuck at the center, I broke it free with a pair of pliers by twisting it back and forth. Then shot a little penetrating oil in to let it rotate freely. That spring senses the incoming air temp (behind the radiator) and tightens or loosens the valve inside the clutch to make it spin more or less.

i pulled out the clutch, and the screw moves freely. i took it for a drive. sounds like the fan is always engaged... wich i'm fine with right now.
problems that might help me solve this with your help.
1) the heat stops coming out of the vents when i'm stopped.
2) the resevior is full... but the radiator is not.
oh... i forgot to post this earlier, the head gasket from the new rebuild blew a couple weeks ago, so i brought it into the mechanic, they fixed it, and i havn't been able to bring it in for a check up since due to the holidays.
cheers
