Question/comment on Brake Booster

Hi Guys,
1995 4Runner 4x4 3.0 /208 K miles.

So I have had a poor idle condition that has progressively gotten worse in the last 4 months. Come to find out, that there is a hissing air noise coming from the brake linkage area where the rubber boot is that go`s to the Booster. When depressing the brake pedal at a stop the idle usually gets worse ( and thats when you can hear the hissing sound of air ) like down to below 500 rpm,and as low as 250 then almost to a stall. Stuck my fingers through the rubber boot as it has deteriorated and nearly fallen apart.

Can I be reasonably certain that there is a vacuum leak at the brake booster? I called the dealer ,and apparently there is no re-build kit. 750 smackers is alot of dough for a new one.

Any input on the subject would be appreciated...
Thanks!

I think autozone and what nots have them too. Rockauto might have one as well.

Good Lord! Is that what dealers are charging for a brake booster? When I replaced mine, remans/Autozone-specials were about $100. I got mine at a junkyard for $50. It hasn't given me trouble, but it's always a risk buying a used part.

Newer Yota boosters may retrofit.

I've found boosters at PullAPart for about $10. Sold one the other day as a matter of fact...

Just a heads up! That job is finished ...Took about an hour and 15 minutes or so. I really could have used a 12 mm Deep socket though : )

Wierd thing : The new booster came with an O ring that they said needed to be put between the booster & master ? I just left it out because it wouldnt have done anything I think, Meaning , it didnt fit anywhere...Maybe it was for a different model or something?
