question about bed.

whats up guys and gals. I am 200% new at the whole toyota scene.. I recently bought an 86 toyota pickup 4x4 that had a ton of problems. After fixing the problems its been the best truck ive ever had. I noticed that their is like a 3 inch body lift on just the bed. After inspecting a little deeper why just the bed was lifted, i noticed that the bed had to be lifted to clear the gas tank. Why is that? Is their a difference in 2wd and 4wd beds? Somebody told me that if the bed has some kind of plastic thing in front of where the back tires are then it is a four wheel drive bed. if that is true than it is a four wheel drive bed, but im just curious as to why the bed had to be lifted to clear the gas tank. thanks everyone..

sorry for the long wait. My internet provider screwed up my internet a little while ago and im just getting internet back..well, i took the bed off a couple days ago and found out that the past owner put a bigger gas tank on it. that is why the bed sets up higher than the cab..thanks for all the replys tho.

with a stock tank i can get 200 miles to a tank of gas.

i would guess your options are
1. swap back to a stock tank
2. if possible remount the tank lower
3. add a body lift to the cab to match the bed.
