Pulling engine-leave trans and transfer case attached?

I am doing a complete overhaul of my '89 Runner. I have most of the truck disassembled. When pulling the engine, can I leave the transmission and transfer case attached, and bring it out as one big unit?

It's a 22-RE with an auto-trans.

Thanks,
Roy

im doing that with my 3vze. you just need a load leveler thingie (to tilt the motor/trans unit) and enough over head space that you can get the arm of the lift high enough. (which was the problem i ran into when i pulled mine as a whole unit)

i would take just the motor out and leave the tranny and t-case underneath and pull it out later
